Bio:
photoDr. Haewook Han received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea in 1986 and 1988, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Univerisity of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Urbana in 1995. He studied low-threshold strained quantum-well heterostructure lasers and two-dimensional photonic crystal semiconductor lasers. At Bell Laboratories, Murray Hill from 1995 to 1997, he contributed to the development of 980-nm high-power and high-speed semiconductor lasers. Dr. Han is currently an Associate Professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH). He cofounded the Korea THz Forum, and served as the Directors of the Center for THz Photonics (1998-2000) and the National Laboratory for Nano-THz Photonics (2005-2009). Dr. Han invented THz plastic photonic crystal fibers for single-mode THz pulse transmission in 2001, and experimentally demonstrated AFM-based THz near-field microscopy in 2009. His current research focuses on fundamental understanding and device applications of THz nano-bio systems such as THz biomolecules, THz paramagnetic materials, and THz 2D/3D quantum matters. Dr. Han is currently an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Terahertz Science and Technology.
